NORM: Nightclubs rain gifts on toy drive

How do you measure Las Vegas' holiday spirit of giving?

For about 300 employees at Tryst and XS nightclubs at Wynn Las Vegas and Encore, it was a Walmart receipt more than 100 feet long.

After a three-hour shopping spree that filled two 18-wheelers, nightclub managers and employees delivered more than $106,000 worth of Christmas toys and gifts to the KLUC-FM, 98.5, collection site manned by Chet Buchanan & the Morning Zoo on Wednesday.

The staffers have been chipping in every night for a year, determined to break their 2009 donation mark of $62,428.

"They're amazing," said Jesse Waits, general partner of the two clubs, referring to the generosity of director of Wynn nightclubs John Wood and his staffers.

The nightclubs raised $32,000 in 2008, the first year. Their 2010 efforts helped boost the total number of loaded trucks to eight, including 495 bikes, plus $105,000 worth in gift cards.

Buchanan promotes the drive every year by spending 12 days atop scaffolding next to NV Energy on West Sahara Avenue.

Also caught up in the spirit of giving:

¦ About 500 Make-a-Wish kids meet Santa today at the Rio, thanks to the generosity of Luxor headliner Criss Angel and Bank of America.

¦ Earlier this week, the Walmart Foundation provided a $55,000 grant to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Southern Nevada, one of the largest ever received by the society.

Last April, the nine "Idol" finalists made a trip to Las Vegas to soak up Cirque's "Viva Elvis" show at Aria and received critique from mentor Adam Lambert, Season 8 runner-up.

LiLo wearing out welcome around rehab facility - Chicago Sun-Times

WITH BILL ZWECKER Dec 22, 2010 12:29PM

Sounds like what had been Lindsay Lohan’s best rehab experience — perhaps the one that could have solved her addiction problems and saved her foundering career — is now in jeopardy.

While the actress has passed the 100-day “clean and sober” milestone at the Betty Ford Center and the sober living facility where she had been residing most recently, several incidents in recent days have threatened Lohan’s ongoing recovery.

Lohan reportedly did not drink alcohol at a party at the so-called “safe house” — where several of her roommates got drunk (and were immediately whisked back to lockdown at Betty Ford) — but there have been a couple of bad run-ins between the actress and the famed facility near Palm Springs, Calif.

Lohan herself also has been moved back to the main Betty Ford compound, due to the security concerns she and her family expressed after she received threatening text and voice mail messages.

† Further complicating matters, Lohan has had several very angry confrontations with Betty Ford staff members — including one that became physical. Authorities were called and assault charges have been pending, but Lohan insists it was the staffer who touched her first and she merely “pushed back.”

† According to a good source at Betty Ford, a number of staff members “want nothing to do with Lindsay and will be happy when she’s gone for good,” though it now appears she will remain there at least until early into the new year.

† Lohan’s mom, Dina, is very concerned and has had several meetings with clinic management to discuss the allegations.

BABY BEAT: Congrats to Chicago native Hayes MacArthur, who stars in the upcoming NBC sitcom “Perfect Couples,” and his wife, Ali Larter (“Heroes,” “Resident Evil” films) on the arrival of their baby son in Los Angeles early Monday.

Proud first-time grandpa Bruce MacArthur was beaming Monday night about his new grandson, quipping, “I can’t wait to see him and say, ‘Hey, baby! What’s happenin’?’” Equally thrilled is Hayes’ mom, Shelley Farley.

CLUB MOVES: Angels Kings Chicago, the nightclub co-owned by Fall Out Boy rock star Pete Wentz, is relocating from its 710 N. Clark location to a new home on the first floor of the Hard Rock Hotel on Michigan Avenue.

According to a release from the club, Angels Kings will be leaving “the distressed den feel of their current location to unveil a more refined joint, but with the same mentality — no velvet ropes, no judgment — come as you are.”

As you may remember, on Oct. 25, a large group of local VIPs — Chicago Bears players — discovered that “no judgment” policy not in effect when they were denied entrance to the club.

While there were strong indications racial profiling may have been a factor — given most of the Bears were African American — the club later apologized and blamed the embarrassing snub on the free-lance event company that had taken over the club that night.

ROYAL WEDDING: According to the London buzz, Prince William and Kate Middleton are using the phrase “conservative elegance” to describe how they want their April 29 wedding to come off.

Good sources say there will be lots of flowers, as the future Princess Catherine is a “flower fanatic,” but the couple wants things tasteful and lush, “fun and festive and gorgeous, but not over the top,” said a royal insider who’s in the know. The source stressed William and Kate are well aware of the financial straits many Brits face these days.

† There will be candles of all shapes and sizes at the reception (Kate loves them), and look for some kind of “ethnic touch,” to pay homage to the couple’s love of Africa and Kenya in particular — where they became engaged.

† There also will be some major charity component to the festivities — likely under the aegis of the Prince’s Trust of the groom’s father, Prince Charles.

IN THE $$$$: The tony Plaza Hotel in New York may have nixed plans for “Jersey Shore” star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino to play a major role in the Manhattan landmark’s fancy new gym/health club, but he’s not worried — given his book, TV, fitness DVD and vodka deals will net him an estimated $5 million over the next year.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus for reality TV stars.

NOT GOING BACK: It doesn’t look like estranged couple Tish and Billy Ray Cyrus are planning to reconcile. Not only is the home of Miley Cyrus’ parents in Toluca Lake, Calif., on the market for $7 million, Tish Cyrus is said to be actively house-hunting for posh new digs in the Encino area.

Angel Management Group to Unveil Savile Row Inside Luxor Hotel and Casino - Stock Markets Review (press release)

Previewing on New Year’s Eve weekend, Angel Management Group will redefine exclusivity with Savile Row inside Luxor Hotel and Casino, an intimate 2,000-square-foot haven where only members and invited guests will be granted access. Former Las Vegas hotspot Noir Bar closed its doors last month to make way for the new venue to reign in its place. Reminiscent of the infamous street in London, Savile Row will cater to an eclectic group with a “made-to-measure” experience. Specialized VIP services, a creative mixology program, reliable discretion and a seductive atmosphere will be the standard. Those lucky enough to enter will be the envy of all partygoers.

“People are what make the party, and when you have the right kind of personalities together in one room, the outcome is unpredictable,” said Neil Moffitt, CEO of Angel Management Group. “With Savile Row, we have the opportunity to create a one-of-a-kind experience by selectively inviting those with diverse backgrounds — ranging from artists, fashionistas, power players and celebrities — to produce a matchless environment that is exciting and impulsive.”

The space was envisioned by famed New York-based designers Steve Lewis and Marc Dizon, who were also the masterminds behind the impeccable designs of Marquee NY, Butter and The Darby. Savile Row was made to envelop partygoers in a lavish retreat daubed in rich hues of amber and burgundy, accompanied with romantic candlelight creating a captivating aristocratic environment. The private lounge will embody old English charm, resembling a 19th century manor with distinct areas that cater to its visitors, offering a personalized nightlife experience.

Upon arrival, guests will be intrigued by the allure and mystery that lies within as they pass through a quaint garden enclosed with manicured hedges and antique gas lamps. Two distinct entrances, one doorway for members and one for the invited will greet them at the end of the garden. Those privileged enough to receive a membership will enter through the exclusive Parlor, where their identity will be processed in order to be allowed in. The Parlor will also serve as a consulting chamber where they can speak with a personal concierge to assist in creating their desired experience. Once identity has been cleared, members will rejoin the others as they venture down a long, riveting, brick covered alleyway with only the flicker from vintage gas lanterns guiding the way.

With sounds from the DJ booth approaching, a sudden welcome into the Fitting Room will surprise guests as the anticipation to enter the party is finally over. The secluded, yet open room is a coveted spot for those wanting the best of both worlds, a place to retire and host an intimate affair while still being immersed in the sexy party atmosphere. Located on the opposite end rests the gateway to the swanky Drawing Room, which will serve as the main area to see and be seen while sipping on delicious cocktails. Talented mixologists will be on hand to create custom-made libations prepared with only the freshest, most exotic ingredients and finest liquors. The diverse music format spun by resident DJs is designed to match the eclectic mix of people in the room. Ranging from funk and soul to rock and roll, the music program will steer clear of the norm and keep the party going into the early morning.

Savile Row gatekeeper Mike Diamond will call all the shots and let in who he sees fit as the new venue will reserve the right of admission. As the lines start to form, guests are encouraged to come dressed to impress and ready to dish out why they deserve to get past the velvet rope. Australian-born Diamond began his prestigious nightlife career working only at the most exclusive clubs in New York City including Bungalow 8 and Pangaea and owning hotspots such as Snitch and Vela.

At the time of opening, only 300 memberships will be distributed. A Savile Row membership will allow the privileged to call ahead and make an appointment, skip the line, enter through the private Parlor and give guest referrals. Although members can make recommendations on who to grant access, it is not guaranteed that all referred guests will gain entry. To top it off, the elite lounge will offer a private concierge that will transform desires into reality. From late night pizza orders, to arranging hotel suites and even booking or re-booking flights, the private concierge will make members’ wishes come true. Memberships cannot be duplicated or passed on to others. Those interested in obtaining a membership will be able to apply online at www.savilerowlv.com.

In addition to its opulent surroundings, unparalleled services, impressive cocktail menu, renowned DJs and entertainers, Savile Row is one of the only nightlife venues in Las Vegas where guests do not have to step foot inside a casino as a dedicated pull-up valet is available for maximum privacy and ease. The new lounge will become a sanctuary for A-listers to relax, let loose and not worry about getting their photo taken as the paparazzi will be kept out.

The venue will open its doors at 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, while remaining open until 6:30 a.m. specifically for the industry, giving them a place to come party and unwind after a long night of work.

Lawyers say Hard Rock 'Rehab' canceled - UPI.com

Published: Dec. 25, 2010 at 11:35 AM

LAS VEGAS, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- Court documents filed in a Las Vegas trademark case indicate the truTV reality series "Rehab: Party at the Hard Rock Hotel" has been canceled.

Attorneys for the Las Vegas hotel and casino said in documents that the series was not coming back despite being a hit.

"Defendants believe the show was an enormous net benefit to the Hard Rock brand," the documents filed last week said.

The Las Vegas Sun Saturday the cancellation announcement contained in the documents came amid a court battle between the hotel and Hard Rock Cafe International, which controls the worldwide Hard Rock brand.

Hard Rock Cafe International went to court in September claiming that the raucous partying displayed in the series was tarnishing the company's good name. The hotel countered the series had actually improved business.

TJ Lavin & Ty Pinney Benefit and Fundraiser December 3, 2010 - Suite101.com

Last Updated Dec 7, 2010, Published Dec 4, 2010  TJ Lavin & Ty Pinney Benefit

On Friday night, December 3, 2010 at Vanity Nightclub at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, threw a fundraising benefit party to raise funds and show support for BMX riders Ty Pinney and TJ Lavin. Lavin and Pinney were unable to attend because of their injuries from bike crashes. UFC president Dana White hosted the benefit to raise funds for Lavin and Pinney's long-term medical rehabilitation expenses.

TJ Lavin and Ty Pinney, both Las Vegans , BMX riders and friends, were seriously injured in separate bike accidents in October, leaving both in comas at University Medical Center in Las Vegas. TJ and Ty have made progress, but they still have a long recovery ahead of them along with mounting medical bills. "When bad things happen, people scatter. You know, nobody is really around then. I didn't want to be that guy,” White said.

On October 13th, 2010 BMX rider Ty Pinney was seriously injured in a bike accident on the backyard bike course at TJ Lavin's home in Las Vegas; the crash resulted in a severe head injury. One day later, while riding at the Dew Tour Championships in Las Vegas, TJ Lavin crashed during a preliminary run for what was to be his last contest as a pro BMX rider. His crash left him in almost exactly the same physical condition as his close friend Ty. The two friends were both in medically-induced comas, just a couple rooms apart, at UMC’s Trauma Center in Las Vegas. All weekend, Dew Tour BMX riders wore Stay Strong/STY SRG shirts to show their support for Ty and TJ.

Lavin's mother, Bobbi Lavin, is convinced her son was so upset by Pinney's accident that it affected him the next day during the Dew Tour. Good friend and fellow BMX rider Ryan Nyquist expressed the same viewpoint: " I feel like that was really on his mind when he competed. It can't not affect you." Both Pinney and Lavin crashed while attempting nac nac jump combinations, lost control, and were unable to get their feet back on the pedals to recover and land.

Las Vegas and the action sports community came together with friends and supporters to gather for a benefit at Vanity Nightclub. Money was raised at the event with a $25 entry fee, VIP table reservations and donations, along with items donated for auction; 100% of the money raised will go to the TJ and Ty Recovery Fund.

Travis Barker, of Blink-182 donated a set of drums to be auctioned. Other goodies up for grabs included a day at Rob Dyrdek's skate mecca "Fantasy Factory" and private lessons from Philadelphia Phillies Shane Victorino for the highest bidders. Alli Sports donated an all-access Winter Dew Tour weekend getaway and NBC donated an all-access Lake Tahoe weekend, including a VIP package to the American Century Classic golf event.

TJ Lavin and Ty Pinney UpdateCurrently, Pinney remains in a rehab center in Las Vegas recovering from his injuries, while Lavin has been attending outpatient therapy. Lavin will return to hosting the "Real World/Road Rules Challenge" show on MTV, but was advised to avoid riding BMX bikes and motorcycles for a year. "He's kicking butt. When I talk to him, he's all there: memory and everything. He's the same old TJ," said Lavin's friend and fellow BMX dirt pro/ dirt shaper Tim 'Fuzzy' Hall. Lavin is expected to make a complete recovery.

Lavin has been riding professionally since he was 19 and rose to fame in the early years of the X Games, where he won three X Games titles in the 1990s, earning the name "King of Dirt." Since then, Lavin has been an aggressive competitor on the Dew Tour Circuit and has been a TV host for 10 seasons of MTV's Real World/Road Rules Challenge. The Dew Tour Championships was to be Lavin's last contest as a professional before retiring.

Ty Pinney is an artist, amateur BMX rider, and a graphic designer for Lavin's LavsLab company and along with Lavin, is a RawVegas.tv host . Pinney is also the founder of the popular Las Vegas clothing brand, The Horror Project, which sponsors various innovative events at Las Vegas nightclubs.

Following the December 3 event, an extensive collection of prize packages, memorabilia, and collectibles will be auctioned off on eBay. All proceeds from December 3 through January 3, 2011 will benefit the Foundation.

The Heal Ty Pinney site also has options to get cool stuff like The Horror Project "Broken but not Beaten" shirts and gorgeous photos of Pinney in action by The Big Tom Project.

“Take it slow and go your own pace,” has always been Lavin's advice to young BMX riders, and both Pinney and Lavin will continue to do just that as they recover.
